According to the Japanese company Sony, they will be announcing the schedule to the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update rollout for their XPERIA line in the middle of December. This means that you’ll finally get to know when your XPERIA handset will be getting the latest version of Android or not by the mid-December.
Sony revealed that it would be announcing its Jelly Bean update rollout schedule, while answering questions from customers on its official Twitter account, @SonyMobileNews.
Sony’s latest announcement lines up with its previous announcement telling us which devices will be getting the Jelly Bean update. Sadly, the list only includes handsets in Sony’s XPERIA line, which were released this 2012. These handsets include the Xperia T, the Xperia TX, the Xperia V, the Xperia S, the Xperia Acro S, the Xperia Ion, the Xperia P, the Xperia Go, and the Xperia J.
According to a recent leak, Sony’s most recent handsets will be the first to get the update. These include the Xperia T, the Xperia TX, and the Xperia V, which the report claims will be updated to Jelly Bean in February of next year. This suggests that Sony will be updating these handsets in time for MWC (Mobile World Congress).
Jelly Bean will be brining a number of new features and tweaks to these XPERIA handsets. These include better stability, faster performance, and a smoother UI thanks to the ‘Butter UI’. Among the new features is Google Now, which delivers relevant information to you before you even think it.
Can’t wait to get to know when your Sony XPERIA handset will be getting Jelly Bean treatment, or are you bummed it took Sony this long to make the announcement? Share your thoughts through a comment on our Facebook page.

Images of the Sony XPERIA Tapioca have been leaked in the past. However, we are yet to get more information on the mystery device by the Japanese company, which suggested that Sony had given the handset the boot. However, a recent leak shows that we may just see the phone launch.
The Tapioca may be an upcoming handset, but it looks nothing like Sony’s current models such as the XPERIA S and the XPERIA U. It actually looks like a budget handset designed by fellow Android manufacturers HTC and Samsung.
The phone sports curved edges and appears bulkier than its more high-end brothers. Specs-wise, the handset sports a 3.2-inch HVGA display, a 3.2-megapixel rear-facing camera, and an 800 MHz single-core processor. With these specs, it’s a dead cert the phone will enter the entry-level market.
Despite sporting entry-level specs, you may think that since the smartphone is new, it may run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). However, the phone looks like it will be running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) instead.
We’re not exactly sure what Sony plans to do with this budget handset. We’re not sure if the phone will ever make it to the UK. It’s still possible the phone will be given the boot. It’s also possible the phone will target emerging markets.

Leaked images of the Sony’s mid-range handsets have surfaced on the internet before their expected unveiling at MWC. These handsets are the Sony ST21i (Tapioca) and the Sony LT22i (Nypon), which will be part of the company’s XPERIA series.
The shots come to us courtesy of PocketDroid. Unfortunately, only the bottom of the Tapioca can be seen in the shots. The front shows the Sony branding, without Ericsson. The rear shows XPERIA. The ST21i was leaked from the inventory system of Sony India, which seems to target emerging markets. It sports a 3.2 inch display and packs an 800 MHz processor under the hood. It will also come with a 3.2 megapixel camera.
The Sony LT22i or Nypon looks similar to the XPERIA Arc. Specs are relatively unknown for now. According to rumors it will sport either similar or slightly better specs compared to the XPERIA Arc S. The Arc S sports a 4.3 inch touchscreen, an 8 megapixel camera, and a 1.4 GHz single-core processor.
The Sony Tapioca and the Sony Nypon are expected to make an appearance at Mobile world Congress 2012 in Barcelona next month alongside other upcoming models.
