If you have been waiting to get your hands on the slim and compact Sony Ericsson XPERIA Ray, you might not have to wait for very long. The partnership between Japan and Sweden has started to ship the Android Gingerbread-powered handset to retailers all over the world. Better yet, the UK will be among the first countries to receive the smartphone.
If you’re planning to pre-order an unlocked version of phone, it will set you back £300. This may be too steep, but you can get it for free. It will be available for free with a contract, on a £25 to £30 a month plan. Yeah, we know. You may not be too thrilled about being tied down to a contract, but it’s the only way to get the smartphone for free.
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Ray comes with solid specs. It sports a 3.3 inch touchscreen powered by the BRAVIA Mobile engine, which is the same technology that powers Sony’s BRAVIA TVs. It will offer users to connect to the internet via Wi-Fi or 3G network. It will come with an 8 MP camera and will support a memory card. Lastly, it will come packed with a 1 GHz single-core processor.

If you are looking for a slim XPERIA handset not as expensive as the XPERIA Neo and Arc, you should know that Sony Ericsson has recently announced the XPERIA Ray. This slim Android handset comes with the same hardware on the Neo and Arc, without the hefty price tag.
Since the smartphone has been announced by Sony Ericsson, when is the handset coming to the UK? Carphone Warehouse now has a pre-launch page for the new handset by the partnership between Japan’s Sony and Sweden’s Ericsson.
Despite the pre-launch page for the Ray, Carphone Warehouse has not announced the exact release date of this slim smartphone. The only information disclosed at the Ray’s Pre-registration page is the phone’s specs and an expected release date sometime in August of 2011. Pre-registration involves getting updated information about the handset and an announcement when customers can pre-order the handheld mobile device.
The spec sheet of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Ray includes a 1 GHz Scorpion single-core processor Snapdragon chipset with Adreno 205 GPU, an 8 MP camera (with autofocus, touch focus, geotagging, face detection, image stabilization, LED flash, and an Exmor R sensor for taking the best shots even with inadequate lighting conditions), and a 3.3 inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touch screen (480 x 854 pixels of resolution) powered by Sony BRAVIA display technology.
The handset is powered by Android’s latest smartphone-optimized operating system version 2.3 Gingerbread. Furthermore, since SE announced full Facebook integration on its XPERIA line, expect that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Ray will get the same feature.
We’ll keep you posted once we know more on the slim handset’s exact release date.

Sony Ericsson is known for creating cutting edge compact Android smartphones. It has done this with the XPERIA X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro. In the near future, it will be releasing successors to these legacy handsets. It has also announced a new handset that continues the compact smartphone design with the XPERIA Ray.
The new smartphone sports a 3.3 inch LED-backlit touch screen on a 111 mm high, 53 mm wide, and 9.4 mm thick frame. Available colors are pink, gold, white, and black. This display is also powered by the Bravia Mobile engine. This is the same technology on Sony’s Bravia HDTVs.
Like all modern handsets, the Ray is powered by the Android OS Gingerbread. This will allow users to get the most up to date apps from the Android Market. Although the phone’s smaller display will make it a bit harder tom play games, the 480 x 854 pixels of resolution will ensure you enjoy everything in rich and vivid colors. Aside from the latest OS from Android, the smartphone packs a 1 GHz Scorpion processor Snapdragon chipset with an Adreno 205 GPU. This will provide the extra punch we all crave for.
The Ray also comes with a superior camera on Sony has to offer. It sports an 8.1 MP camera, which is the same camera on the XPERIA Arc. It also features Exmor R, which will allow you to enjoy high-quality captured images in the dark.
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Ray is yet another example of the company’s focus on compact handheld mobile devices. It makes users enjoy all the advantages of Android software and SE ingenuity without the bulk. Although there was no release date specified, the smartphone is scheduled to hit stores sometime in the 4th quarter of this year.
