Windows Phone 7 Apps News

The Windows Phone 7 developer tools were first made available a year ago and the guys over at the Windows Phone Developers Blog have helpfully posted some very interesting statistics for us to get our teeth into.

They state that there are now 11,500 now available to users to download, this may not sound a staggering amount but the team are keen to point out that they are not artificially inflating their numbers as rivals do by counting ‘lite apps’ or personalisation options.

Quote: ”We recognise the importance of getting great apps on our platform and not artificially inflating the number of actual apps available to customer by listing ‘wallpapers’ as a category, or perhaps allowing competitor’s apps to run on the platform to increase tonnage,” they also state ”Finally, we don’t double and triple count apps which are submitted in multiple languages.”

1.5 million people have now downloaded the Windows Phone 7 developer tools which includes both Visual Studio Express for Windows Phone and Expression Blend 4 for Windows Phone, the guys boast ”the number of downloads equates to the size of the entire population of Philadelphia”. 36,000 people have now become paid members from the AppHub community of the Windows Phone developer community.

On Average, Windows Phone 7 users have downloaded 12 applications to their devices, 7,500 of the 11,500 available Windows Phone Apps are paid and there are currently 1,100 that are generating a revenue stream for the developer using Microsoft Advertising Ad Control.

It looks like the Windows Phone 7 operating system is gaining a sure foothold in the market with some predictions, most notably from the International Data Corporation (IDC) predicting that the Microsoft OS will overtake Apple’s iOS on handset sales by 2015!
