Apple’s Better Notification System On iOS 5 Stolen from Android
Apple is known for stealing both software and hardware designs from the competition, which can be seen on their devices. Often times, their versions get to be more popular than the original. A clear example of this is the iOS 5. Users from both the Windows Phone platform and Android say that there are features on the iOS 5 that are strikingly similar to the features they are on.
An example of these features is the notification system on the iOS 5. iOS users have been ranting over their current alert system for quite a while now. They will finally get a better notification system thanks to Apple stealing the feature from Android.
Boy Genius reports the similarities between the two. According to the website, there is no doubt that Apple has indeed lifted the feature from Android. However, they have also reported that Apple’s version is more enhanced and more user friendly.
On Android, alerts are seen as icons on the status bar. However, control is limited. Apple’s version allows users to customize these alerts to provide more information within the alerts themselves. Apple actually offers more control compared to Android.
These similarities have spurred outrage from both sides of the party. Android users on devices such as the HTC Sensation or the Samsung Galaxy S2 are saying that Apple has again committed foul play. iOS users on devices such as the iPhone 4 are willing to go on a limb for the operating system they love.
For sure, both parties are going to go neck-in-neck in the OS race. They will surely come up with better ideas and try to steal features from one another. This has been going on even before Bill Gates stole software for his Windows platform. Is it going to end? Not a chance. The good thing we can get out of this, though, is the better features these technology giants have to offer to the consumer.
