Shots of the entry-level Sony XPERIA Tapioca leaked
Images of the Sony XPERIA Tapioca have been leaked in the past. However, we are yet to get more information on the mystery device by the Japanese company, which suggested that Sony had given the handset the boot. However, a recent leak shows that we may just see the phone launch.
The Tapioca may be an upcoming handset, but it looks nothing like Sony’s current models such as the XPERIA S and the XPERIA U. It actually looks like a budget handset designed by fellow Android manufacturers HTC and Samsung.
The phone sports curved edges and appears bulkier than its more high-end brothers. Specs-wise, the handset sports a 3.2-inch HVGA display, a 3.2-megapixel rear-facing camera, and an 800 MHz single-core processor. With these specs, it’s a dead cert the phone will enter the entry-level market.
Despite sporting entry-level specs, you may think that since the smartphone is new, it may run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). However, the phone looks like it will be running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) instead.
We’re not exactly sure what Sony plans to do with this budget handset. We’re not sure if the phone will ever make it to the UK. It’s still possible the phone will be given the boot. It’s also possible the phone will target emerging markets.
