It looks like ZTE (makers of the ZTE Racer) is planning to launch a gaming phone that rivals Sony’s XPERIA Play.
On Twitter, ZTE UK tweeted, “The countdown has begun! 6 days left until you can have one of the MOST ADVANCED GAMING SMARTPHONES in your hands!”
Sony was the first manufacturer to create a smartphone built around gaming. The Android handset sports a slide-out gamepad. Sadly, the device failed to win the hearts of the consumer. Will ZTE succeed where Sony has failed?
Although ZTE has not disclosed any details on their new device, its possible ZTE’s gaming phone will sport a quad-core processor just like the Samsung Galaxy S3 to attract buyers. The company will be launching an event in London next week. We’ll know by then what this new gaming phone has to offer.

The partnership between Japan and Sweden, Sony Ericsson, has stated its PlayStation-certified smartphone the XPERIA Play does not need a sequel. The company adds that the handset can take on the competition’s current flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation.
Talking to Erogamer, one of the company’s executives said, “This device, with the GPU integration, has been optimized for gameplay.
“It’s not going to be outperformed that quickly.”
We concur that Sony Ericsson doesn’t need to make an XPERIA Play. However, our reasons are different. Its software is the main problem. It wasn’t up to par with our expectations. Not even a single launch title of the Play reached a thousand downloads.
With the launching of highly popular game titles such as Minecraft exclusively for the Play in a limited period may make the smartphone more attractive. However, we’re not sure for how long. Since the iPhone 5 is on the horizon, with a number of popular games available to the platform, the attention the Play might be enjoying will shift back to the new iOS-powered smartphone.
If you are one of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play owners, are you satisfied with the games available to the Play, or are you still dissatisfied? Let us know how you feel.

When we first heard of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play, we were itching to get our hands on the only PlayStation-certified smartphone in the market. However, we were quickly disappointed by the poor selection of games available to the Gingerbread-powered smartphone. Now this is all about to change. There are a number of hardcore games coming to the smartphone such as Need For Speed, Dead space, and so much more.
Aside from the two popular games mentioned above, there are more games coming to the smartphone. These additional games will be optimized to make better use of the phone’s console-like controls.
The list of games includes EA’s Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, Dead Space, and FIFA 12, Polarbit’s Tanks, Reckless Racing 2, and Reckless Getaway, Gameloft’s Let’s Golf 3, HandyGame’s Clouds and Sheep, Guns and Glory WW2, and Townsmen 6, YoYo Games’ They Need To Be Fed, Be-Rad Entertainment’s Lame Castle, Catfishblues Games’ Hyperlight, Ezone PTY LTD’s Diversion and Crazy Snowboard, Gibs & Gore Micronytes, Herocraft’s Battle Boats 3D and Protoxide, Hexage’s Radient and EVAC HD, Jean-Francois Geyelin’s PewPew 2, Orange Agenda’s Stellar Escape, Orange Pixel’s Meganoid, INC, and Jumpy, PlayCreek LLC’s Death Women, Real Tech VR’s No Gravity, Divide Art’s Crusade of Destiny, and, lastly, Southend Interactive’s Desert Winds.
Don’t worry about having to wait for these games. A few of them are now available for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play. It seems that all of these games started to pop up after Minecraft was announced for the smartphone yesterday.
It’s a about time the games started to pour in. Our Sony Ericsson XPERIA Plays were starting to gather dust.
