The Taiwanese phone giant HTC has turned heads with the launch of its Ice Cream Sandwich-powered quad-core superphone the One X, but this doesn’t mean that it has forgotten about its former flagship the original Sensation. It has rolled out the Android 4.0 update for the SIM-free version of the original Sensation. Now, Vodafone has started to roll out the update to its Sensation owners.
Vodafone announced, “Great news. The testing of the ICS update for HTC Sensation is complete, and we plan to start rolling out the update tomorrow, 29th March. The update will be rolled out in phases by the Over The Air service, so if yours doesn’t appear right away, you can either wait for it to appear, or go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check now.”
The original Sensation was HTC’s first smartphone to sport a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. At the time of its launch, the only smartphone that could rival the Sensation’s processing power was the highly popular Samsung Galaxy S2.
Although the Sensation will be receiving the latest iteration of Android, we can’t say the same for its version of the Sense UI. HTC will be rolling out enhancements to Sense on the Sensation, but, unfortunately, it will not be the same UI found on HTC’s more current models such as the One X, One S, and One V.
Do own the original Sensation with Vodafone, have you upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich? Let us know through a comment.

Compared to its Q4 2010 profits, the Taiwanese phone giant HTC announced a 26% drop in profits in last quarter of 2011. It blames its lost profits to the likes of none other than the Korean tech giant Samsung and the Cupertino firm Apple.
From 2009 to 2010, nothing seemed to slow HTC down. It continued to grow as a brand with market shares going nowhere but up. In May of 2011, HTC hoped to continue its success with the release of the original Sensation. However, with Samsung releasing the Galaxy S2 at the same time, the S2 proved to be the more popular of the two. In October of last year, HTC released the powerful HTC Sensation XE and 4.7 inch Sensation XL. Sadly, Apple’s iPhone 4S was released at about the same time. Again, HTC was left behind by the competition.
Apple Insider reports that in a conference call with investors, Winston Yung, HTC’s CFO, said that HTC was in the middle of a product transition, which will affect its Q2 2012 sales.
Yung said, “Our weakness in first-quarter guidance also comes from facing competition in the U.S. from iPhone and Samsung. LTE handsets also didn’t meet our expectations.”
We’re expecting HTC to unveil the quad-core Ice Cream Sandwich-powered HTC Edge as well as a host of new devices at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona this month. Hopefully, with these new products, HTC can get back in the game.

It looks like we’re about to see another version of the HTC Sensation. HTC revealed that it is planning to launch the Sensation in Ice White. Other than the change in color, the smartphone will ship running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
The Ice White HTC Sensation is scheduled for launch on the 1st of March. With ICS pre-installed, this would make this version of the Sensation the first in its series to sport the latest iteration of Android.
Aside from being the first Sensation to sport ICS, it is rumored that the Ice White will also sport the latest Sense UI, version 4.0. However, take a pinch of salt with this since there is no way to confirm the report.
The launching of the HTC Sensation in Ice White is backed up by a Dutch press release, saying that the smartphone will be joining other handset in the Sensation series such as the XE and XL. It adds that the ICS update will be rolling out to the handsets soon.
Recently, HTC UK’s Phil Robertson said, “We ended 2011 with far more products than we started out with. We tried to do too much.” This meant that HTC would be cutting back on the amount of products it launches for 2012. However, with the Ice White joining the Sensation series, wouldn’t this add to the confusion? We’ll just have to wait and see.
