Leaked Samsung event invite points towards May 22nd Galaxy S3 release date

Wondering when Samsung plans to officially unveil the Galaxy S3? Well, a purported leak of a Samsung event invite has surfaced on the internet, which points towards the S3’s official unveiling on the 22nd of May in London.

The leak also teases the Galaxy S2’s successor in a design we’ve never seen before. Although the leak only shows a part of the phone, the image shows a slim handset sporting a sculptured metal design, which is getting us more excited.

Fast, Vivid, Slim is also mentioned on the invite. Aside from the obvious slim profile, this suggests the phone sporting an HD display and impressive hardware, possibly a quad-core processor like previously reported.

DDaily, a Korean site, claims the S3 will sport a 720p 4.65 inch Super AMOLED Plus display. AsianE says the S3 will come packed with a quad-core processor under the hood and support 4G LTE. We’re hoping all of these rumours are true.

Samsung has not confirmed the invite, which means that this image may be a Photoshop job. Nonetheless, we’re hoping the invite is the real deal, which means that we’ll finally get to see the hotly anticipated smartphone on the 22nd of May.

Do you think this Samsung Galaxy S3 invite is the real deal, or do you think it’s a Photoshop render? Give us your thoughts.

Samsung Galaxy S3 to sport a 4.65 inch AMOLED Plus screen?

According to reports, the hotly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S3 may sport a 4.65-inch AMOLED Plus touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. This means that we might just see the Galaxy S2’s successor sporting a display the size of the Galaxy Nexus.

Although the S3 and Nexus is said to sport the same screen size, according to DDaily, a Korean site, they will not sport exactly the same type of display. They say the S3 will sport a Super AMOLED Plus display just like the Galaxy S2.

This means that the S3’s display may be similarly sized and sport the same resolution compared to the Nexus, but will offer better picture quality thanks to its Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen.

Previous reports claimed that the S3 would sport a 1080p display, but if this report is true, it looks like we’ll be getting a 720p display instead. Of course, since Samsung has not revealed the specs of its new flagship, take this information with a pinch of salt. We’ll get to see once and for all if the rumours are true when Samsung officially unveils the smartphone sometime in the first half of 2012.

Do you think Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S3 sporting a 720p Super AMOLED display or a 1080p display? Give us your thoughts.

Samsung Galaxy S3 rumoured to sport an AMOLED retina display

There have been a number of rumours surrounding the hotly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S3, the successor of the highly popular Galaxy S2. These rumours revolve around the smartphones processor and casing. Now, current rumours have everything to do with the phone’s display. According to a report, the S3 will sport an AMOLED retina display similar to the display on the iPhone 4S.

The new comes to us courtesy of Digitimes. The website claims Korean panel manufacturers are heavily investing in the development of AMOLED panels. The word on the street is larger displays with higher resolutions will be the standard on a number of smartphones this 2011. This includes the Galaxy S3.

If we add this rumour to the list of rumours we’ve hear, the Galaxy S3 will sport a quad-core processor, a ceramic casing, and a 4.6 inch AMOLED display with a pixel density of 319 ppi, which is just 7 ppi short of the iPhone 4S’ 326 ppi on its 3.5 inch retina display. Although 7 ppi less compared to the new iPhone, you’ll never notice the difference since the naked eye can’t see pixels this small.

If the rumour is true, then this would mean that the Galaxy S3 will give the iPhone a run for its money. Well, not unless the iPhone 5 comes up with something significantly better.

Does a Samsung Galaxy S3 with a retina display interest you? Give us your thoughts.
