Orange planning to increase its selection of NFC handsets
According to Orange, it will be increasing its selection of NFC-enabled handsets. It will be including more of these phones to its roster in a span of 12 months.
Currently, the network operator has a single NFC-capable handset in its roster. This is the Samsung Tocco Lite. However, the NFC chip-bearing Samsung Galaxy S2 has been announced to be landing in France. This suggests that the Samsung flagship’s NFC version will be landing in the UK as well.
Everything Everywhere’s Director of Mobile Payments & Ticketing, Jason Rees, said, “We’ll be seeing a number of new NFC-capable handsets by the end of the year, giving the contactless capability across the range”
“It will be offered in high end phones, as well as the mid and lower tier devices, and will be supported by all the operating systems you’d expect.
“Next year will be very healthy in terms of NFC-capable phones; if you imagine this year we were looking at launching maybe two or three, by Q3 2012 we aim to have tens of devices across the range.”
Is NFC the next big thing in mobile? It certainly looks this way. The search giant Google has launched it contactless payments service Google Wallet. The London 2012 Olympics will sport NFC services. Lastly, more and more NFC-enabled handsets are starting to pop up.
