Google planning to sell upgraded Nexus 7 in July, report claims

The Google Nexus 7, rival of Apple’s iPad Mini, will be getting a more powerful processor and a full HD display in July, a report claims.google-nexus7

The rumour comes from Reuters. According to the news site, “Google is aiming to ship as many as eight million of the Asustek-made tablets in the second half of the year, throwing down the gauntlet to other low-end tablets such as Amazon.com Inc’s Kindle Fire and Apple Inc’s iPad mini, the sources with knowledge of the new product said.”

Speaking about specs, the site says, “The latest version will have a higher screen resolution, a thinner bezel design and adopt Qualcomm’s chip in place of Nvidia Corp’s Tegra 3, which was used in the first Nexus 7s released last year, the sources said, declining to be identified because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

“In a blow to Nvidia, Google weighed both U.S. chipmakers’ processors but finally decided on Qualcomm’s for power reasons, one of the sources added.”

Speaking about price, the site said, “Google may choose to sell the new gadget for $199, the same as the first generation rolled out last June, while the old model may be discounted, one of the sources said. Alternatively, the new tablet could be priced more competitively at $149 and the previous model discontinued, the source added.”

NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 will make smartphones even more powerful

Were you blown away with the power offered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 powering smartphones such as the HTC One X? Well prepare to be blown away even more. NVIDIA has debuted the Tegra 4 at CES, which will make future smartphones even more powerful.

Like its predecessor, the new chip comes with four cores. So what else does it have to offer? It also packs 4G and more graphics power. This means better gaming, web browsing, and videos.

The new chip packs four ARM Cortex-A15 cores and 72 GeForce GPU cores. This would make it six times more powerful than the Tegra 3.

Aside from improving gaming, web browsing, and videos, there are also new features to be enjoyed. This includes new camera features. One of these features is capturing images faster. Built into the chip is a photography engine, which works with any app such as Instagram. This means better photos.

Also included is a 4G LTE modem. This means faster 4G internet. This is great news since other networks aside from EE will be offering 4G data this year.

This all sounds great, but NVIDIA failed to mention which future superphones will be using the “world’s fastest mobile processor”.

Can’t wait to know which superphone will be using the NVIDIA Tegra 4? We’ll keep you posted once we know more.

The news comes to us via PC Mag. The website says that NVIDIA will be launching the ‘Tegra 3+’ later during the year, following the release of their quad-core Tegra 3 chip.

At HTC’s event in the US, Mike Rayfield, NVIDIA’s general manager, said that “a significant bump’ and should start appearing inside products from Q3 onwards”.

According to PC Mag, the NVIDIA Tegra 3 could come with an LTE modem. However, there might be a slight problem. Rayfield says that “guy who has LTE isn’t all that excited about working with me”. Rayfield was referring to Qualcomm. Currently, Qualcomm is the biggest LTE modem maker. It is also NVIDIA’s biggest rival when it comes to processors for smartphones and tablets.
