Former hacker hired by Apple
Apple has just hired Comex, a popular hacker responsible for a number of iPhone jailbreaking websites. Te hacker will now be working with Apple as an intern.
If you are into jailbreaking your iPhone, you must have heard of websites such as Spirit and JailbreakMe. The hacks found on these websites will allow you to unlock your iPhone, which will then allow you to tweak performance levels as well as make use of various tools unobtainable on locked iPhones.
It looks like Apple is looking to tighten its grip on its platform, making it more secure. It makes sense for Apple to get their hands on young talent, who has successfully breached the iOS’ security. Offering hackers better-paying jobs in the future will ensure Apple patches up the cracks in the system. It’s better to hire a hacker to solve the problem, rather than trying to blindly looking for backdoors.
Tech giants hiring hackers is not new. In the past, Facebook reportedly hired a known hacker George Francis Hotz aka geohot and million 75, who was infamous for hacking the Sony PlayStation 3, which resulted in Sony suing Hotz. Apple looks to take advantage of similar talent through Nicholas Allegra aka Comex.
The news of Apple hiring Comex, came from Comex (Nicholas Allegra) himself. On his Twitter account, Allegra tweeted, “It’s been really, really fun, but it’s also been a while and I’ve been getting bored.”
It looks like industry giants have now adapted a new mantra, “If you can’t beat ‘em, hire ‘em.”
