There have been many rumors flying around about the iPad 2’s successor, the iPad 3. We’ve heard that Apple may launch their next generation iPad in March, a year after the second generation iPad was launched. Now, there are new reports suggesting the third generation iPad may be released as early as February.
This report comes to us via the Japanese website Macotakara. The site’s sources come from the US and Asian suppliers. Their sources claim that Apple is planning to “hold Special Event in early February.” They claim that this event will be the official unveiling of the iPad 3. It will be released early in March.
The sources add that software will be taking center stage, alongside the iPad 3. They claim that Apple will also roll out iOS 5.1 in March.
Other rumors surrounding the iPad 3 is a quad-core processor, 4G internet speeds, and the much awaited retina display. This will allow the iPad to further increase its dominance over Android tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Although an interesting prospect, take this information with a pinch of salt. Apple is yet to confirm these reports, and we all know how tight-lipped the Cupertino firm tends to be. We’ll just have to wait until February to confirm if there’s any truth to these rumors.

A component for the next generation iPad has just been leaked. This part suggests that the rumored iPad 3 will sport a revamped design compared to its predecessor the iPad 2. The news comes to us via Cydia Blog.
The component in question is a microphone. According to the report, Apple has altered the layout of the rumored slate’s internal circuits. It is said that these changes will allow the mic flex cable to turn 90 degrees.
Other rumors surrounding the next generation iPad is a smaller version, which is set to directly compete with the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet and other smaller Android tablets. The iPad 2 currently competes with larger 10 inch tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Motorola Xoom.
DigiTimes reports that the iPad 3, just like the Galaxy Tab 10.1, will be available in a smaller 7.85 inch version. It is expected to launch in the 4th quarter of 2012. Six months before the launch of this smaller iPad will be the regular sized iPad 3.
According to other rumors, the next generation iPad will support 4G and a retina display just like the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S.

The iPhone 4S has only been in the market for a month, and there are now reports of the iPad 2’s successor the iPad 3 stirring up. Today, the Cupertino firm is said to have processed an order for millions of panels for the new tablet. Production is said to kick off in January. If this is true, the new slate will arrive earlier than its traditional spring launch.
According to Digitimes, their source within Apple’s supply line says LG, Samsung, and Sharp will be making the touchscreens for Apple. In October, a million have been shipped. The assembly line is expected to receive twice as much shipment this November.
If these reports are accurate, this would mean that the iPad 3 will arrive at shops by January, says the source. Foxconn is said to fire up their factories by the start of 2012. This suggests that the new slate would find their way towards Apple enthusiasts sometime in April of next year.
Aside from the early 2012 launch of the iPad 3, there is also talk of the rumored 7.85 inch iPad Mini in development. However, we’re unsure if this smaller iPad will ever make to the market.
