iPad 2 to be Used as a Learning Tool in the US

If you are a fan of Apple devices such as the iPhone 3G S, the iPhone 4, and the iPad, here is another reason to admire the brand even more. A school district in the state of Maine in the USA has announced that it will be spending $200,000.00 for a bulk order of Apple’s iPad 2. The tablets will be used as a learning tool for kindergarten students.

This is truly the high-tech generation. By august of this year, one of the school districts in the city of Auburn, Maine, is planning to provide close to 300 of the next generation Apple tablets to their kindergarten students. To be used as a tool for learning, the tablets will make use of hundreds of learning apps, which are available on Apple’s App Store.

The tablets will not only be used in the school premises; the students will also be allowed to bring them home probably for homework and other school related activities. However, it is also highly probable that the kids will not be the only people enjoying the slate in their homes. Dad or mom might forget that their kid’s iPad 2 was meant to give their kids an edge in school; not for downloading a recipe or checking out golf gear.

The main goal of the tablets and learning applications is to increase the literacy level of the district from the current 62% to a 90% target on 2013. According to the school’s superintendent, the use of the tablets is an unconventional teaching method, which will redefine teaching methods in the years to come.

This is not new to the state of Maine. Back in 2000, the city’s governor proposed that thousands of 7th grade students and teachers should each be given an iBook. The current program involving the iPad 2 is geared to make other school districts around the US follow suit if successful. Hopefully, other nations follow suit as well.

Google Nexus Tablet by LG to Rival iPad 2 – Nexus G, Slate or Tab?

Although it may seem as though it was an obvious move this is the first news we’ve received regarding a Nexus tablet from the Google stable, however what was not obvious is that a new manufacturer is to produce this new Android powered super tab.

Although not 100% confirmed Eldar Murtazin from over at Mobile Review which is a well trusted mobile blog  believes that LG are to be the choice of manufacturer for the new Google Nexus tablet which makes good sense since the company are releasing a few Android powered tablets over the coming months including the much anticipated LG G-Slate.

Google will use the Nexus tab in the same way they do their Nexus range of mobile phones which includes the latest Nexus S smartphone from Samsung, to develop the new Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet specific operating system to rival the best selling iPad and now iPad 2 since its release on Friday.

This means that the Google Nexus G, Tab, Pad, Slate or whatever else its final name will be will offer the very best in Android performance and receive the very latest updates before any other device on the market, Android has now taken over the iOS on new mobile phone sales in the US according to surveys carried out by commScore and Nielson but the tablet market is still very much dominated by Apple’s iPad.

Google will be looking to take a major chunk out of the iPad 2 sales with their new tablet and judging from sales of their Nexus S handset they stand a good chance, another way that the search engine giant has made sure of this is with the bad news that previously released Android tablets by other manufacturers will not be able to get an upgrade to the new Honeycomb 3.0 OS which will upset many a Samsung Galaxy Tab owner.
