The Taiwanese phone giant HTC will be challenging the current tablet leader, the iPad, with its 10 inch Android-powered slate the Puccini. According to Winston Yung, chief financial officer of HTC, the tablet will be available either on September or October. However, he did not mention pricing or a list of countries the tablet will be available in.
Rumor has it that the Puccini will come packed with a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor under the hood. It will also sport an 8 megapixel camera. With these specs alone, it is sure to dwarf all tablets in the market, including the iPad 2.
The HTC Puccini will be powered by Android’s tablet-optimized OS, Honeycomb. Although it hasn’t been officially announced as of yet, it is possible that this super tablet will also come with the Sense UI on top of Honeycomb.
Not only will the Puccini be directly competing with the iPad 2, it will also be competing with other tablets across platforms. It will be going up against other 10 inch Android tablets such as the Motorola Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It will also be competing against the webOS-powered HP TouchPad.
Does the HTC Puccini have what it takes to take on the Apple iPad? Let us know what you think.

The iPad 2 currently sports touch screen displays supplied by LG and Samsung. However, since Apple and Samsung are tied up in a legal dispute, the house of Jobs is reportedly under negotiations with Sharp to replace Samsung min their supply line. The deal is said to be worth around $1 billion.
LG may be the iPad 2’s major supplier, but losing Apple as a client will be a huge blow to Samsung. According to 9to5Mac, there were quality issues involving LG-made displays on the iPad 2. This would have given Samsung an opportunity to increase its production of displays for Apples current tablet. However, the current legal battles involving both the Korean tech giant and the Cupertino firm may have severed their business relationship.
Aside from the patent disputes between Apple and Samsung, there is another possible reason why the Cupertino firm is talking to Sharp. The other reason may have something to do with risk reduction. The risk of problems on the supply line is reduced once the number of suppliers is increased. If ever something were to go wrong with one of the suppliers, then there would be more than one supplier who can pick up the pace.
Is Apple talking to Sharp to replace Samsung, or is it trying to reduce risk? Let us know what you think.

According to Craig Berger, FBR Capital analyst, Apple will be releasing an HD version of the iPad 2 with its new flagship smartphone the iPhone 5 this September.
The report adds that the HD version of the iPad 2 will be dubbed the iPad Pro. This is the same way Apple PCs are named. An example is the MacBook Pro.
You should take this information with a grain of salt. There is no way to confirm if the analyst’s reports are accurate. Furthermore, we don’t find his predictions convincing. Why would Apple release an HD version when the iPad is performing exceptionally well when it comes to sales?
It would make more sense if Apple were to release a cheaper version of the iPad 2. This way, it could corner the market and prevent Android tablets fro going forward.
Despite our reservations, the iPad Pro could target a more specific niche like videographers and photographers, who need an HD screen for their line of work. This makes sense as well.
With all the grains of salt you’re taking, you must now be suffering from congestive heart failure. There are just so many rumors surrounding Apple devices that there is no way to tell which one is true. One thing’s for sure, we’ll get to know the real deal by September. However, once these mooted devices finally come out, there will be more rumors surrounding next generation Apple iDevices.
