Finally – Samsung Galaxy Note gets ICS update

After Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) rolled out to the Samsung Galaxy S2, many wondered when the latest version of Android would roll out to the hybrid device the Galaxy Note. If you’ve been wondering the same thing, we have good news for you. ICS has finally rolled out to the device.

Samsung’s PR team confirmed with Know Your Mobile that “the Ice Cream Sandwich update for Galaxy Note has been released and will be available when approved across the networks”.

Let’s just hope we don’t experience the same fiasco with the Galaxy S2 when the ICS rolled out first to handsets locked to a network before SIM-free versions of the device. Regardless, we’re happy to report that ICS for the Galaxy Note has now landed.

Motorola says Ice Cream Sandwich will make things worse for some of its handsets

Ever wondered when Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) would roll out to your Motorola handset such as the Atrix or RAZR Maxx. According to Moto, not all of its handsets will get the ICS update. In fact, they warn that the latest version of Android will make things worse.

Motorola said, “We work very closely with Google and cell phone carriers for every software update. And obviously we want the new release to improve our devices. If we determine that can’t be done — well then, we’re not able to upgrade that particular device.”

This is disappointing news, but at least the manufacturer has given its customers all the information they might need on the ICS update. You can find out if your phone gets ICS or not here.

Relived your Motorola handset will get Ice Cream Sandwich, or peeved the update will not be rolling out to your smartphone? Express your thoughts through a comment.

HTC handsets on O2 to get Ice Cream Sandwich update in April

We have good news if you own an HTC handset with the network operator O2. The network has confirmed that it would be rolling out the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update to its customers with HTC handsets in April.

We all know how frustrating it is waiting for updates with phones ted down to a contract. Unlike SIM-free handsets, phones with a contract would have to wait longer due to the time it takes for networks to run tests on updates. Thankfully, if you’re with O2, you might not have to wait any longer for the latest version of Android to roll out to your HTC handset.

Currently, O2 has failed to mention which phones in its HTC lineup will be receiving the ICS update. Although it didn’t mention any details, it’s likely that the update will be rolling out to HTC handsets that were released in late-2010 and 2011. At least we won’t have to wait very long since April is just a few days away. Expect O2 to disclose more details in the next few days.

It’s a dead cert Ice Cream Sandwich will be rolling out to smartphones such as the original Sensation, Sensation XE, and Sensation XL. However, don’t expect the update to roll out to older models such as the Desire, since these phones may not have what it takes to run Android’s latest version.

We’ll keep you posted once we know more.
