It has created one of the most powerful handsets in the market the 1.2 GHz dual-core-powered handset the HTC Sensation. It’s about time HTC took the time to add their high-end touch to their WP7 handsets. True, they do carry a number of Windows-based handsets in their roster. However, their Android handsets are clearly the phones basking in the limelight.
Since Windows Phones are subject to strict hardware guidelines with Microsoft, don’t expect this new handset to come with a dual-core processor just like their latest handsets. However, it does come with a processor that cannot be found on current WP7 smartphones. The HTC Eternity comes packed with a 1.5 GHz single-core processor. This offers users power and performance unsurpassed by any smartphone of its kind.
Other specs look impressive as well. Other specs include a 4.7 inch touch screen, an 8 MP camera, LED flash, autofocus, a 1.3 MP front-facing camera, 720p video capabilities, DNLA support, 16 GB of storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a long-lasting 1,560mAH battery. This is definitely a jaw-dropping list of specs for a WP7 handset.
Of course, since there was mention of a front-facing camera, it is expected that this Windows-based smartphones will be running the Mango update. Unfortunately, no information was leaked about the price and release date. We’ll keep an eye on this and inform you once we know more.
The Windows Phone 7 platform is not new to HTC. The Taiwanese phone manufacturer has released WP7 handsets such as the 7 Pro, the HD7, and the 7 Mozart. Now, we are starting to hear rumors that the Taiwanese-based company is planning to release two more WP7 handsets sporting a 1.5 GHz processor. These are the Omega and the Eternity.
WMPowerUser, a website that specializes on the Windows platform, claims to have inside information about HTC’s plans of releasing these two new smartphones. However, there is no way of telling whether these reports are reliable or if their sources are reputable. For now, it is best to treat these reports are merely rumor.
WMPowerUser claims to have source within HTC. According to their source, the Eternity will run the Mango version of the Windows Phone 7 platform. It will also come with an HDMI connector and a 4.7 inch AMOLED touch screen. If these reports are true, this smartphone will be enormous. If released in the market, it will hold the record for the largest smartphone in the world. Some might mistaken the phone as a tablet. The Omega will also be powered by the said 1.5 GHz processor, but will come with a smaller display. It will come with a 3.8 inch S-LCD touch screen.
Although the website did not mention when we are to expect the device, Microsoft is expected to launch its Mango or Windows Phone 7.5 version towards the end of this year. We might see the two new HTC handsets on or before Microsoft’s launch of the Mango update.
These reports may be speculation, but it is far from impossible. HTC has been one of the most competitive figures in the mobile phone industry, and it is highly possible for them to release handsets such as the Omega and Eternity.
