Polar Gives the Blackberry Playbook an App Boost

When Blackberry announced that it is in the process of designing its first tablet, we never expected it to be this good. Despite the amazing specifications, there was still one question that lingered in everybody’s minds. Will there be a wide range of apps to choose from? Since then, Blackberry has done well to provide apps for their customers. One of the ways they plan to do this is to get help from Polar.

Currently, there are approximately 20,000 apps in Blackberry’s App World. This is not at all impressive compared to the Android Market’s 250,000 apps and the Apple App Store’s 350,000 apps. These figures were recorded on the Month of March of 2011. The number of apps available for Android and Apple continue to grow at a skyrocketing rate.

Regardless of how insignificant the number of apps Blackberry has in its App World, it made a move that got everyone jumping out of their seats. BB configured its tablet to not only run its own apps, but apps from the Android Market as well. Although the Playbook can only run apps from as far back as the Android OS version 2.3 Froyo to the current version, this is still a wide range of choices presented to the Blackberry Playbook’s future users. To top it all off, Polar has vowed to give BB an app boost.

Polar has been inexhaustible in creating apps for Android, iOS, WP7, and BB platforms. They specialize in newspaper, magazine, and media like apps. They have also committed to creating more than a hundred apps for the Playbook.

According to Polar, they like everything about the BB tablet. They added that the tablet is most likely to be used by its users for more than 5 times a day, compared to only the evenings and weekends from the iPad. Consumers will rely on the Playbook’s apps to provide easily accessible content.

With the versatility of the Blackberry Playbook, consumers will surely notice it to be a worthy adversary of the iPad and Honeycomb tablets such as the Motorola Xoom.

Both of these new tablets were originally announced by their respective manufacturers at February’s Mobile World Congress alongside other players such as the Motorola Xoom and LG G-Slate.

The Blackberry Playbook has been given a release date of early June whilst the HTC Flyer looks set to hit the network slightly earlier in May, both of these new device offers a 7 inch touch screen display and the Flyer is packed with Google’s new Android Honeycomb 3.0 operating system specifically designed for the tablet market and the Playbook runs on the new QNX OS.

The HTC Flyer uses a 1.5GHz processor whilst the Playbook packs in a dual core 1GHz.

So it seems the options for those that are not taken with the new iPad 2 are growing and with the popularity of Android devices soaring these new tablets look to be sharing some real sales volumes very soon.
