Google Chairman Eric Schmidt praises former Apple CEO Steve Jobs
Sure we’ve heard of all the differences between Google and Apple. So, when Google’s chairman, Eric Schmidt, has been reported to have said something about the former Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, you may be expecting it isn’t anything good. However, it was exactly the opposite. According to the search giant head honcho, Jobs was the best performing CEO in 50 years.
Schmidt reckons Jobs’ capabilities have made Apple a formidable force in the industry, not once but twice. This, according to the Google chairman, was an extraordinary feat.
Talking to Mark Benioff, Salesforce CEO, Schmidt supposedly said, “Steve Jobs gave the best performance by a CEO in 50 years, maybe 100 years. He not only built Apple once, but twice.”
Schmidt relinquished his CEO position back in January. Now, he sits as the search giant’s chairman. Steve Jobs has done the same last week.
Both former CEOs were also former friends. However, when Google’s Android entered into the mobile phone OS market, the two began to be at loggerheads with each other. Rumor has it Jobs revealed his plans for the iPhone back in the day. When Google developed Android, this infuriated Jobs. According to reports, this ended their friendship.
Is this an attempt by Schmidt to end the tension between them? It’s quite possible. Will Jobs return the favor? This, we’re not too sure.
