Samsung Claims Conflict Of Interest among Apple Lawyers
According to a report by Fosspatents, Samsung is claiming that Apple’s attorneys cannot represent the Cupertino firm due to conflict of interest. The Korean tech giant claims that 5 of the lawyers on Apple’s counsel have represented them in the past.
The law firm in question is the patent litigation and licensing firm Bridges & Mavrakakis. Kenneth Bridges, the firm’s founder, along with at least 4 more lawyers are said to have represented Samsung in other cases. Having represented the Korean phone manufacturer in the past, the law firm has inside information, which gives Apple an unfair advantage.
In Samsung’s motion, the tech giant says, “It is inevitable that Samsung’s confidential information … will be used to advance Apple’s interests against Samsung in this litigation.”
This doesn’t end here. Samsung is demanding that the two other firms on Apple’s payroll have not received any confidential information from the said patent litigation law firm.
Apple seems to be busy fighting battles against a number of its rivals. It is pushing for a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 ban in the US. It is also fighting a legal battle with the Taiwanese phone manufacturer HTC. The house of Jobs claims that HTC has infringed on several of its patents.
Honestly, it seems like Apple is using every grounds to sue its rivals. Is Apple really the victim, or is it afraid that its rivals are quickly catching up?
