According to a report, the iPhone 5 will support Everything Everywhere’s 4G network. It will be joining other phones offered by EE such as the 4G version of the HTC One X (One XL) and the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE.
The Guardian reports that the Cupertino firm has registered the device on a confidential 4G database with the GSMA. The new iPhone has also been tested on the 1,800MHz band, which is used by EE’s 4GEE network.
Previously reported, the list of 4G devices to be offered by EE include the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE, the HTC One XL, the Nokia Lumia 920, the Nokia Lumia 820, and the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE. Now, it looks like the iPhone 5 will be joining the list.
Everything Everywhere, consisting of T-Mobile and Orange, will be the first network operator to offer 4G internet. This was possible since the network had extra airwaves after merging. This 1,800MHz spectrum will be used to dish out lightning-fast 4G internet.
Although we’re happy to finally get 4G services in the UK, Everything Everywhere’s 4G plan is controversial. EE will be dishing out 4G services ahead of its rivals O2, Three, and Vodafone.
Ofcom will auction off the 800MHz and 2.6GHz 4G spectrums to other networks early in 2013. This means that the 4G iPhone 5 will be exclusive to Everything Everywhere for several months. It can potentially be the only network to offer the smartphone if Apple doesn’t release a 4G iPhone that works on rival networks’ spectrum.
Apple is scheduled to officially unveil the new iPhone this evening. It is also expected to land in shops soon after.

Speaking to Wall Street Journal, sources say that the iPhone 5 may sport international LTE support. This will allow future owners of the handset to visit countries across the US, Europe, and Asia without losing their lightning-fast 4G internet. Although an interesting prospect, the sources did say that not all network operators will offer the service.
Samsung, however, has warned that it will sue Apple if it launches the new iPhone with LTE support.
The Galaxy S3 maker owns 819 LTE patents and seems to lay in wait for the iPhone 5 with LTE support. It will likely use this as payback for having to pay the Cupertino firm over $1 billion in damages in the recent patent case between the two.
The iPhone 5 will debut on the 12th of September in San Francisco. We’ll know by then if it will sport international LTE support. We’ll also know by then if Samsung will take legal action.

According to reports from Korea, Samsung has confirmed to sue Apple if it launches an iPhone 5 with LTE support. The Galaxy S3 maker owns 12.2% of all patents that relate to LTE.
Although the Korean firm does own 12.2% of patents associated with LTE, we’re unsure how it plans to use these patents against the Cupertino form. Since LTE patents are universal, they fall under FRAND (fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory terms) law. This means that it would be difficult for the patent holder to file a lawsuit using these licenses.
