Tim Cook says Siri on the iPhone 4S will be improved

Siri on the iPhone 4S may be highly popular in the US, but still fails to show its full potential in the UK. It fails to understand regional accents and it takes a while for the virtual personal assistant to provide more information on local businesses. More often than not, it fails to lookup businesses in the UK.

In an interview with All Things D, Apple’s current CEO, Tim Cook, dismissed the criticism and claims Siri on the iPhone 4’s successor has “unbelievable” potential. He also promised that improvements to Siri are coming.

Cook said, “I think you’re going to be pleased with where we’re taking Siri. We’re doubling down on it.”

Do you think improvements to Siri on the iPhone 4S will make more usable in the UK? Give us your thoughts.

iOS 5.0.2 update to fix iPhone 4S battery problems possibly delayed

Apple’s iOS 5.0.2 update is expected to finally fix the battery issues surrounding their new handset the iPhone 4S, which Apple is said to be working on, double-time, to deliver. Sadly, the Cupertino firm experienced a bump along the road, which threatens to delay the update from rolling out as scheduled.

The cause of the delay was due to memory issues. Apple developers would like to get these issues fixed before rolling out the battery fix. It seems the company would like to get everything done, instead of rolling out a follow-up update for a different issue.

Other issues of the iOS 5 involve Wi-Fi issues surrounding the iPad, iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S have been discovered recently. We’re hoping the iOS 5.0.2 update addresses these issues as well.

The iOS 5 running on the iPhone 4S is currently subject to scrutiny from a number of disappointed new owners. Other issues involve users experiencing white noise while on voice calls. Initially, the problem has been reported to affect vice calls when either third-party or Apple headsets are plugged in. Recently, reports have flooded Apple’s support forums of the issue affecting ordinary voice calls.

We’re hoping Apple rolls out the iOS 5.0.2 update soon, and we’re hoping it addresses all the issues surrounding its devices particularly the iPhone 4S. We’ll keep you posted once we hear more news on the update’s progress.

Apple continues to investigate battery issues of the iPhone 4S

The iOS 5.0.1 update promised to address the battery issues surrounding Apple’s latest smartphone the iPhone 4S. Despite the promise, customers flooded the company’s support pages with complaints of the problem getting worse. Apparently, the Cupertino firm continues to investigate these battery problems.

Apple told AllthingsD, “The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS 5 devices. We continue to investigate a few remaining issues.”

When the iOS 5.0.1 update rolled out last Friday, many thought this would be the end of the iPhone 4S’s battery woes. Some complained that the update gave their smartphone the problem, when they didn’t experience any battery issues in the past. Some complained that the update made the problem much worse. Sadly, Apple is yet to announce when a new update will address the new problems.

Issues surrounding the iPhone 4S do not end here. Apart from the smartphone’s battery woes, it also has an issue with voice calls. Initially, reports started pouring in on an echo affecting voice calls when headphones were plugged in. Later on, customers complained they experienced white noise even when the headsets were not plugged in.

Bottom line, Apple has to sort out these issues pronto before their customers decide to jump ship and get their hands on upgrade to either Nokia’s new Windows Phone Mango-powered Lumia 800 or Samsung’s new Android flagship the Galaxy Nexus.

Are you one of the iPhone 4S owners suffering from these problems? Can’t wait for another update to address these issues, or are you afraid it will just make things worse? Voice out your frustrations through a comment.
