Apple iPhone 4S UK release date and price confirmed – iPhone 5 nowhere to be found

Apple’s latest smartphone, the iPhone 4S will be available for pre-order on the 7th of October, which will reach your doorstep on the 14th of October. It will set you back £499 if you opt to pre-order the device. If you’re planning to raid your nearest Apple Store, the phone will be available on the 14th of October. Okay, the iPhone 4S has been officially announced, but where the heck is the iPhone 5?

The smartphone is powered by the iOS 5 straight out of the box. It sports an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash. It packs a 1 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor Apple A5 chipset under the hood, which is exactly the same dual-core processor within the iPad 2. Big deal, the Samsung Galaxy S2 packs a 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core processor Exynos chipset. Where the hell is the iPhone 5? Was the iPhone 4S worth waiting for 15 months after the iPhone 4? Let’s find out.

First of all, the iPhone 4S sports exactly the same dimensions of the iPhone 4. It is 115.2 mm high, 58.6 mm wide, and retains the 9.3 mm bulk. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is 8.5 mm slim. Say goodbye to a slimmer iPhone.

Currently, Android flagships sport bigger touchscreens. An example is the HTC Sensation with its 4.3 touchscreen. The iPhone 4S sports the same 3.5 inch touchscreen on its predecessor. Say goodbye to an iPhone offering more real estate.

Most expected a curved design like the iPhone 3GS, which offered a better grip. However, this new smartphone offers the same flat surface just like its predecessor.

Sure, the Apple iPhone 4S is a better compared to a number of smartphones in the market. However, it doesn’t offer the biggest edge compared to the current flagships offered by the competition, especially with Ice Cream Sandwich on the horizon and Windows Phone gearing up for its future handsets. This makes you wonder if Apple was really trying to protect its intellectual property or was it merely trying to delay the inevitable.

Are you dying to get your hands on a brand new Apple iPhone 4S, or do you think Apple’s new smartphone is a monumental disappointment? Give us your thoughts.
