It seems network operator Vodafone will be offering Nokia’s new Lumia, rumoured to be the Lumia 928.
On its official blog, Vodafone says, “There’s something big, bold and beautiful coming just around the corner. Nokia has invited the tech press to a gathering in London on May 14th to ‘see what’s next’ from Lumia, acting as the stage for the unveiling of a brand new Lumia product. The Vodafone team will be there in attendance, which can only mean one thing…
“Vodafone UK will be stocking the next chapter in the Lumia story.”
“Yep, that’s right: we’re proud to be able to say that (even though our lips are firmly sealed ahead of the launch) Vodafone UK will be stocking the next chapter in the Lumia story.
“We’ll be able to bring you a whole load more when the time comes, but for now you can rest assured that we’ll be among the first UK networks to offer Nokia’s new darling.
“We love the Nokia Lumia range, so this is a no brainer – the unique colours, the solid build and brilliant designs marry up perfectly with the slickness of Windows Phone 8. We currently stock the Nokia Lumia 920, 820, 520 and 620, and we can’t wait to bring any new members of the Lumia family into the fold.”

EE, the first 4G network in the UK, is offering free 4G in fifty iconic black cabs that have been given a make-over. This will work for any device with Wi-Fi such as the iPhone, iPad, Samsung Galaxy S3, or Google Nexus 7.
EE announces on its website, “From Tuesday 2nd April, commuters in London and Birmingham can hitch a superfast ride in the 4GEE Taxis – the UK’s first ever fleet of 4G enabled hackney carriages. Even if stuck in rush hour traffic, passengers will experience a super-speedy journey thanks to free mobile 4G from EE, as Britain’s only superfast 4G network brings the latest in communications technology to this unique fleet of taxis.
“The traditional hackney cab has long been a part of the UK’s transport history and now 50 of these iconic vehicles are making history of their own. Each car has been given a hi-tech makeover and fitted with a state-of-the-art MiFi wireless router that acts as a mobile 4G hotspot connecting the cabs to the UK’s only superfast 4G network.
“Every day over 200,000 black cab journeys are taken across London alone and over 40% of smartphone users across London and Birmingham say they have been late for a meeting while in stuck in traffic. However, 1 in 5 commuters said it would make their day less stressful if they had access to the internet whilst travelling in a taxi. By fitting a fleet of 50 taxicabs with superfast 4G, EE hopes that passengers will see the time-saving benefits of using its 4G network on the go.”
EE’s Director of Brand, Spencer McHugh, said, “The first motorised black cabs hit the streets in 1901, nearly 70 years before the first smartphone was available to consumers, now we are bringing this icon of British transport into the 21st century with a 4G make-over. We hope this trial will demonstrate the benefits of a superior online experience as users can browse, download, catch up on emails, Tweet and check Facebook literally at the speed of light. We can’t make taxi journeys any faster but we can certainly speed up people’s smartphones!”
EE adds, “The free 4G service will be available for three months with 40 traditional Hackney carriages in London and 10 in Birmingham decked out with the state-of-the-art technology.”

It seems European network operators have complained to the European Union about apple’s unfair iPhone contracts.
The report comes from the New York Times. It reports, “European Union regulators are examining the contracts Apple strikes with cellphone carriers that sell its iPhone for possible antitrust violations after several carriers complained that the deals throttled competition.
“Although they have not filed formal complaints, a group of European wireless carriers recently submitted information about their contracts with Apple to the European Commission, according to a person briefed on the communications with the carriers who asked not to be identified.
“This person said the accusations focused on Apple’s contracts with French carriers, though other countries may also be involved.”
The European Commission’s spokesperson, Antoine Colombani, said in a statement, “We have been contacted by industry participants and we are monitoring the situation, but no antitrust case has been opened.”
Natalie Kerris, an Apple spokesperson, said, “Our contracts fully comply with local laws wherever we do business, including the E.U.”
If these anonymous European network operators’ claims are true, it looks like Apple is facing an antitrust case.
