Sharp says retina display shipments for iPhone 5 to start in August

Sharp’s president, Takashi Okuda, says that his company will begin shipping the iPhone 5’s retina displays within the month. In a briefing in Tokyo, he said, “Shipments will start in August.”

The iPhone 5 (or ‘The New iPhone’) is expected to be officially unveiled on the 12th of September with a release date soon after. This would mean that Apple’s next generation iPhone is expected to hit shelves in October.

The iPhone 5 is rumoured wider 16:9 display, a smaller dock connector, and the A6 chip (probably a quad-core processor). It’s a dead cert that the hotly-anticipated handset will run iOS 6.

The iPad maker is rumoured to unveil the iPhone 5 alongside the iPad mini.
