RIM CEO says the company is working on ‘something else’ aside from smartphones and tablets with Blackberry 10

According to RIM’s CEO, Thorsten Heins, its Blackberry 10 OS will not be limited to just smartphones and tablets.

In an interview with The Verge, Heins said, “I want BlackBerry 10 to be the mobile computing platform of choice, for various segments, not just smartphones or tablets.”

He adds, “A smartphone is an expression of it, so is a tablet… but so is something else we’re working on. We’re open to many ideas.”

So what exactly does this mean? Does the maker of the Bold 9900 and PlayBook plan to make BB10 work on computers and laptops? Does Research In Motion plan to license its next generation operating system? Unfortunately, there’s still no word on what RIM is planning.

Want to know what else RIM is planning with its Blackberry 10 OS? We’ll keep you posted once we know more.
