Hacker makes iOS 6 Maps work for jailbroken iPhone 4

A hacker has successfully enabled 3D mapping and 3D enabler on iOS 6 for a jailbroken iPhone 4.

When Apple unveiled iOS 6 at WWDC, many were saddened to find out that the next generation software only allowed 3D mapping for devices that sport the A5 chip. These devices include the iPhone 4S, the new iPad, and most likely the upcoming iPhone 5.

SlashGear reports, “Anton Titkov has come up with 3DEnabler, bringing 3D buildings to iPhone 4 units running iOS 6 with the early jailbreak, though so far turn-by-turn navigation is eluding him.”

3DEnabler will only work on an iPhone 4 if you jailbreak the device. It is a complicated process, but if you’re willing to make 3D mapping available for your jailbroken iPhone 4, an online guide is available here.

Apple’s iOS 6 is expected to be released in September. The iPhone 5 is expected to be unveiled after.
