Nokia shares in Finland rise after rumours of a Samsung takeover

Nokia’s stock on the Helsinki Stock Exchange has risen to 11% after rumours of Samsung taking over the Finnish firm. If the first and second largest phone manufacturer were to combine, we’re looking at a single phone maker that would dominate half of the mobile phone market.

Is this rumour true? It’s unlikely. If there’s one firm that would likely take over Nokia (maker of handsets such as the Windows Phone-powered Lumia 800 and Lumia 900), it would be the software giant Microsoft.

However, according to Dagens Industri, a Swedish newspaper, Samsung has offered Nokia 4 Euros per share. If this amount is multiplied by 3.74 Billion Nokia shares, we’re talking about an estimated 14.96 billion Euros (around 12 billion British pounds). If this is true, the Korean tech giant a 70% premium over the Finnish firm’s current market cap. Nokia is yet to confirm or deny these reports.
