HTC’s One X sporting a 4.7-inch touchscreen, a quad-core processor, and Ice Cream Sandwich has definitely turned a lot of heads once the Taiwanese phone manufacturer officially launched their new flagship. However, the superphone had a few problems such as battery issues. HTC has addressed these issues with the phone’s first firmware update, which is now available across Europe.
According to Android Central, the 30 MB firmware update changes the past version into version 1.28.401.9. It should roll out to unlocked versions of the handset via over-the-air update. The update doesn’t seem to significantly change the phone’s user experience, but it does include a few tweaks and fixes.
Changes include the removal of the unnecessary menu button on Google applications such as YouTube. The automatic brightness levels have also been toned down a bit.
Earlier, One X owners have reported battery life issues. The update addresses this problem as well as a bug that squashes characters on the screen and clutters letters and icons in the notification bar.
If you own an unlocked version of the One X, you can download the update by going to ‘Settings’, then ‘About’, and then “Software Update’ to check if the update is available for your phone. If you’re locked into a contract with a network, you’ll have to wait for network operators to finish testing the update before rolling out the update to your handset.
Issues and bugs are not new to newly released smartphones. In the past, iPhone 4S owners complained about their handset draining the batteries faster than expected. With the One X’s case, we’re happy HTC rolled out a firmware update sooner than expected.
