According to a report, the software giant Microsoft is planning to officially unveil the much awaited Windows Phone Skype app at Mobile World Congress towards the end of this month in Barcelona.
This report comes to us courtesy of The Verge. It said that “at least one source indicated that it could launch at Mobile World Congress later this month.”
Skype was purchased by Microsoft for approximately $8 billion back in 2011. Many expected that the Skype app for the Windows Phone platform would soon come after the acquisition, but the released proved to be elusive. There were rumors speculating on a Skype app release for Windows Phones, but none could tell when it was to be released. Now, although still a rumor, we’re hearing a more specific launch date.
Joe Belfiore, VP for Windows Phone, said in the past that Skype would be arriving to the Windows Phone platform late in 2011, according to The Verge. However, users on handsets such as the Nokia Lumia 800 and HTC Titan are yet to see Skype running on their handsets.
Is there any truth to this rumor? Unfortunately, there’s no way to confirm the report. Although you should take this information with a pinch of salt, we’re hoping the Skype app for Windows Phone does arrive at Mobile World Congress.
