The Korean tech giant Samsung has just confirmed to rolling out a firmware update for their smartphone/tablet the Galaxy Note. The update will bring enhancements to the device’s virtual keyboard.
The OTA (over-the-air) update is now available for download across Europe including the UK. Once your Galaxy Note has been updated, you will notice the shifting of the device’s keyboard to the right of the display. Since the Note sports a bigger 5.3 inch display compared to other devices such as the 4.65 inch display on the Galaxy Nexus, its size will make it more difficult to type with one hand. With this keyboard enhancement, users will now find it easier to type with just one thumb.
Aside from the virtual keyboard’s new screen position, users will notice an additional row. Numbers will be found on this new row.
Other enhancements include slight changes to the screen unlock functionality. Also included is an application called Samsung torch, which allows users to use the Note’s screen as a flashlight.
Unfortunately, this update will not roll out to all Galaxy Notes across Europe. It will only be available for unlocked versions. If you signed up for a contract, it might take longer since network operators have to test the update if it is compatible with their own network-specific software, which could take months.
