The search giant Google will soon close the deal in completely acquiring Motorola. Shareholders of the mobile phone manufacturer unanimously voted for the new partnership. 99% of the shareholders who attended the meeting were in favor. The question is, when will Motorola finally be absorbed by Google?
We first caught wind of the merger in August of this year. Google reportedly agreed to purchase Motorola for a whopping £8 billion. However, it is only now that shareholders have decided to give the acquisition a go. Since shareholders have only recently given the acquisition a go, this means that deal will final and made official early in 2012.
Motorola’s CEO, Sanjay Jha, expressed his optimism regarding the vote. The CEO said, “We look forward to working with Google to realize the significant value this combination will bring to our stockholders and all the new opportunities it will provide our dedicated employees, customers, and partners.”
The deal is expected to close sometime in the early months of 2012. However, the acquisition may still be subject to investigation under SEC rules and regulations. This suggests that devices carrying the Google brand may not hit shelves as soon as you may think. In the meantime, enjoy current products such as the Motorola Xoom and Razr as well as incoming products such as the Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition.
