Tipster claims Ice Cream Sandwich update coming to Samsung Galaxy S2 and HTC EVO 3D in December

According to an Android insider, the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC EVO 3D will be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich update this coming December, which is only a month away. This is definitely great news for owners of one of the most desired Android devices in the market.

According to the Examiner, the tipster was asked at an LA Android gathering specifically about the HTC EVO 3D and its Ice Cream Sandwich update. The tipster said that Google, Samsung, and HTC are working around the clock to deliver the update to their smartphones. The source added that the Android 4.0 update would be rolling out to the smartphones sometime in December.

On HTC’s official Facebook page, the Taiwanese phone manufacturer announced that they would be issuing the update to the EVO 3D early in 2012. According to Samsung Italy, the Galaxy S2 would get the ICS update in the second quarter of next year. The tipster’s claims may conflict with these official reports, but having ICS roll out to the two smartphones by December is a welcome prospect.

The first smartphone to ship with Android 4.0 is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The latest iteration of Android offers a Tron-like UI, Face Unlock, and enhanced multitasking. The new Android flagship will land in the UK on the 17th of November.

Since it will take time for manufacturers to test Ice Cream Sandwich on their custom UIs, it’s likely that the ICS update for the EVO 3D and the Galaxy S2 rolling out in December will only be for unlocked handset (phones with no contract).

Although this information must be taken with a grain of salt, it is exciting news for HTC EVO 3D and Samsung Galaxy S2 users. We’ll keep you informed once the rumor has been verified.
