Announced on Sony Ericsson’s official blog, the Android Gingerbread update is now starting to roll out to their legacy handset the XPERIA X10.
Unlocked X10s will be the first to get the update next week. It will available by downloading the update to your PC. Software bundled with the smartphone will allow you to install the update to the X10. This is what we thought.
Apparently, someone at Sony Ericsson made a mistake. The update is, unfortunately, still unavailable for the X10.
Head of Product PR for SE, Mattias Holm, wrote, “As some of you have seen we have communicated on www.sonyericsson.com that the Gingerbread software update for XPERIA X10 is available. Unfortunately that information was a bit too premature. The launch is imminent and timing according to plan but we just need some more days before we can push the button.”
Okay. So they need more time. It’s better than not getting the update at all. However, there is bad news. There will be a few XPERIA X10s on specific network operators that will not be getting the update. Sony Ericsson is yet to announce who gets the update and who does not.
Although you might have been disappointed by news, all you have to do is wait for just a few more days for the Gingerbread update to roll out. After all, it was previously announced that the Éclair version Android would be the last iteration of Android to roll out to the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10.
