HDMI Integration on Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play Soon To Come?

The Gingerbread powered PlayStation-certified Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play currently does not support an HDMI connection, but from recent images on engadget, the handset was connect to an HDTV for large-screen gaming.

One of the features Sony Ericsson neglected to add on this impressive piece of technology is an HDMI connector. It is unclear why the phone manufacturer chose not to add the feature. It actually makes more sense to add it since it is the only PlayStation-certified smartphone. How else are users going to enjoy more from hardcore gaming without the feature? The SE XPERIA Arc comes with an HDMI connector; why not the Play?

The Play comes with a 4.0 inch touch screen, which is considered large compared to other conventional touch screens. However, it cannot be considered a tool for intense gaming, regardless of the console-like controls. The screen is just too small for users to enjoy more from PlayStation games.

When the images from engadget came out, it was initially thought that the current version of the handset now comes with an option to connect to HDTVs. However, the images displayed a connection on the left side of the smartphone. They quickly noticed that there’s nothing there but chrome. Furthermore, there were no other connections on the exposed motherboard of the smartphone.

This led the website to believe that the handset featured in the images were SE Plays with additional ports specifically released for developers. However, when developers were asked about the specialized handset, they were unaware of it being in existence.

It could be possible that Sony Ericsson is about to release another version of the XPERIA Play that comes with an HDMI port. This might mean that Sony has realized the lack of foresight made and will soon launch an HDMI version, or this could all be hoax. We’ll report more once we get more info.
